Count the Words in a PDF
Count the words, characters and pages in a PDF.
Runs in your browser
How it works
Counts words and characters across the document and per page, with and without spaces, plus a rough reading time. It reads the text layer, so a scanned document counts as zero until it has been through OCR — and the tool says that rather than reporting a confident zero.

Questions
- Why does it say zero words?
- The PDF is probably a scan. Run OCR first, then count.
- How is reading time worked out?
- At about two hundred words a minute, which is a typical adult reading speed for prose.
- Can I count only part of the document?
- Yes, with a page range.
